Originally had the stock intel heatsink with my 3770k and it made an annoying whinny noise while running. Could always hear it while the computer was on. I wouldn't classify it as loud but much more noise than i had hoped for on my first build. I did just recently build an htpc with an intel fan and its very quiet so it may have just been bad luck. Either way i didn't want any noise.
This is a no-frills heatsink, it is cheap and performs better than a stock heatsink. If you are building a new computer and you aren't sure if you should get a aftermarket heatsink, buy this. It is quieter than a stock heatsink and it performs better.

The installation mechanism could be better but it's still rather easy. Aside from that, this is probably the best value/budget cooling option. It's much better and quieter than most stock heatsinks.

Would buy it again. Installation was easy and quick (if you have the board out already!). Sound is a lot less than the standard cooler I was using before.

tried it with 3930k, it was OK when stock clocks, but OC it with this HSf, wont do much, unless you add another fan I expect it would do a really better job.

As noted in other reviews, the installation instructions are almost worthless but if you are mechanically inclined, you can make it through. The fan will touch my Corsair Vengence ram if I install a stick in the nearest slot on my ASUS P8Z77-V Pro motherboard. Great unit otherwise.

bought this to use instead of stock cooler that came with my i7. fits nicely even in my SFF case and still room for ram with high heatsinks. so far it's doing a great job keeping my cpu cool.

Works nicely. Good price. It was a bit of a pain to install on my Asus motherboard as the cooler's backplate had to balance on some bolt on the motherboard. Installation still wasn't too bad considering.

Slightly loud when under full load but most of the time super silent. I attached a second fan to mine. Device is quite large and just fits around my other components. Haven't tried overclocking my Intel i5 yet, but stock cooling is very effective. Great deal especially when on sale for less that $30. I've seen this cooler mentioned in many magazines and reviews and it is always highly rated.
